Working in the software industry, this is more than just geeky interesting to me - we have MANY meeting discussions on version numbering. Really. Yes. It's sad.

I'm surprised he didn't mention Oracle's hellish versions. Who's seriously going to remember the DB server is running version 11.1.0.6.9...

That was a fun read. I've also wondered what it will take to move OS X to OS XI. The Mac OS has noticeably evolved since I started using it in 2002, and I am surprised that the updates have only yielded "point" numbering increases. Oh well, who knows when it comes to Steve & Co....
